Thread veins can be both unsightly and uncomfortable. At Shropshire Skin Clinic we
treat thread veins on the legs with microsclerotherapy, intense pulsed light or laser.
A combination of these may be used to achieve the optimum result.
Compression stockings are useful in reducing the discomfort associated with varicose
and thread veins. They will also reduce the development of new thread veins and recurrence
of previously treated thread veins. We are stockists of the Sigvaris range of compression
hosiery which we believe to be the best in both appearance and function.
Patients with significant underlying varicose veins generally need further investigation
with a Duplex ultrasound scan and then surgery or 'Venus' treatment. If underlying
varicose veins are not treated the response to thread vein treatment is unlikely
to be satisfactory. If varicose veins are detected during assessment at Shropshire
Skin Clinic a Duplex ultrasound scan can be arranged at a local private hospital
and referral to a consultant vascular surgeon with an interest and expertise in these
procedures can be made.
Thread veins are small dilated blood vessels. They are extremely common and particularly
likely to develop in patients with varicose veins or a history of thrombosis or pregnancy.
The problem often runs in families.
