Sharon qualified as a registered general nurse (RGN) at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH) in 1979. In 1980 she completed the neonatal intensive care course at New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton and received the Dr. Everley Jones award for neonatal nursing in the West Midlands. She worked for five years in the Intensive Care Unit, RSH, caring for critically ill adults and children. She gained extensive surgical experience over eight years at RSH, including participation in setting up and working in the first day surgery unit in Shrewsbury.
From 1992 to 2000 she was a School Nursing Sister caring for the health of school aged children in North and subsequently South Shropshire. Between 2000 and 2002 she took a sabbatical to study law.
Sharon worked as a staff nurse in the outpatient department at the Shropshire Nuffield Hospital between 2002 and 2004. Her interest in dermatology and cosmetic treatments developed whilst supporting consultant dermatologists and plastic surgeons working in the department. Sharon joined us at Shropshire Skin Clinic when we opened in 2004.
Sharon carries out microdermabrasion, skin peel, hair removal and Lux1540 fractional laser treatments. She assists Dr Murdoch in all other treatments carried out at Shropshire Skin Clinic including other laser treatments and skin surgery procedures. Sharon provides nurse led Photodynamic Therapy treatments and a nurse led Roaccutane clinic.
Sharon is our clinic link nurse for both child protection and health and safety and our clinic training organiser and is closely involved in preparation and updating of policies for the Quality Care Commission.
In October 2004, Sharon completed the Gwent Healthcare Trust Photodynamic Therapy training course, which forms part of the Dermatology nursing diploma.
Sharon has received basic and advanced training on Microdermabrasion, Agera Skin Peels and the AgeraRx Medical Product range. She is trained to use our Quantum HR Intense Pulsed Light hair removal system and our new Lux 1540 fractional laser.
In November 2005 Sharon attended the 2 day joint British Medical Laser Association and Lasercare Meeting. During this meeting she attended the following courses:
CA basic course in laser safety approved by the British Medical Laser Association
Basic principles and clinical practice
In 2006 Sharon attended the Laser Hair Removal BTEC Diploma Course and has been awarded the diploma after successfully completing her assignments.
In November 2007 she attended an update for the Agera Rx Medical product range.
Sharon attended the UK Photodynamic Therapy training day in London in November 2008.
Sharon attended a meeting run by the Quality Care Commission previously (Healthcare Commission) for Independent healthcare providers in November 2008.
All nursing Staff at Shropshire Skin Clinc undertake annual training to include, CPR (resuscitation) and anaphylaxis, medical devices, fire safety, manual handling, child protection awareness and health and safety training.
